CAMP HOST POSITION
Seasonal Camp Host job opening for campground near Hueco Tanks State Park. We are located 25 minutes outside El Paso, TX. We are located 5 minutes to the Hueco Tanks Park. Hueco Tanks is well known for it's Native American history, rock art paintings, and world class rock climbing.
We are located under 2 hours drive to several National Parks including Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands. We are under 1 hour from regional attractions including Franklin Mountains, Red Sands and Rio Bosque Wetlands. Other nearby attractions include the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, Hot Spring in Truth or Consequences, Hot Springs in Deming and the Gila Mountains.
Our campground offers primitive camping, RV sites, camper rentals, yurt rentals and house rentals. We operate primarily from November - April.
HOST DUTIES include :
SEASONAL POSITION FROM NOV - APRIL : Minimum of 3 month commitment required. Busy season is December, January and February. This is a work trade position, compensation for hours work is exchange for site or accommodation. This works great for remote workers, retired travelers, and rock climbers.
2 POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
POSITION 1 - 12 hrs/week in exchange for your stay in a FURNISHED CAMPER. Total of 48 hours/ month minimum requirement (12 hrs/week) in exchange for monthly stay in the iconic BOMBER RV, includes all utilities (water, electric, propane, internet, trash) plus access to free showers and laundry facility. THE BOMBER sleeps 2 with two twin beds. Kitchen includes mini fridge, oven, stove and dining table. Toilet (pee only).
POSITION 2 - 5 hrs/week in exchange for a PRIMITIVE CAMP SITE. Total of 20 hours/ month requirement (5 hrs/week) in exchange for PRIMITIVE SITE. Utilities include internet, trash plus access to free showers.
HOURLY PAY: This is primarily a trade for site position, and our goal is to complete all of the work within the allotted monthly work hours indicated above, however if for some reason there are any hours over the monthly hour requirement they would be paid $15/hour.

Gleatherland Ranch is a locally owned, family-operated campground, not a large corporate campground or KOA. If you're looking for a quiet place surrounded by wide-open desert, mountain views, sunsets, and dark skies, you'll probably love it here.

Pets 🐾
We are a pet-friendly campground, and many of our guests travel with dogs.
While we require dogs to remain on a leash, but as with any campground, we cannot guarantee 100% compliance. Occasionally, neighborhood strays may also wander through the property. While we've never experienced issues with aggressive dogs, we believe in being transparent so applicants know what to expect.
If you're uncomfortable around dogs or with the possibility of occasionally encountering an off-leash dog, this position may not be the best fit.
Desert WildlifeThe Chihuahuan Desert is home to a variety of wildlife, including coyotes, javelina, rattlesnakes, and scorpions. While many of these animals are rarely seen, they do live in the area and are part of the natural desert environment.
Coyotes are our most common wildlife sighting, although you’re much more likely to hear them than see them. Javelina are also occasionally spotted but mainly in the Hueco State Park.
Rattlesnakes and scorpions are present as well. They are generally most active during the warmer months, beginning in spring, and become much less active during the winter. We typically see only a few rattlesnakes each year, and that's largely because we live here year-round.
The best way to avoid an encounter is simply to be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking around rocks, brush, or trails, and to watch where you step. With a little awareness, desert wildlife is easy to enjoy from a safe distance.

Hueco Tanks State Park is the primary reason most of our guests stay with us. While we welcome visitors year-round, the busiest months during climbing season often mean the park reaches capacity and access can be limited.
If you plan to visit the park during your stay, we strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with Hueco Tanks State Park's rules, reservation system, and access policies before applying. Understanding how park visitation works—including North Mountain reservations, guided tour requirements, and seasonal demand—will help ensure your expectations align with the realities of spending a season at Hueco.
Many of our Camp Hosts come specifically to climb or explore the park, but access is not guaranteed every day during peak season, so planning ahead is essential.

- Cleaning rental units
- Daily shower/toilet cleaning,
- Ensure drop in campers have paid & registered.
- Collecting and logging pay envelopes (self pay site),
- Mediate conflicts with campers
- Monitor water tank levels
- Maintaining cleanliness of grounds,
- Report maintenance and repair issues as they arise
- Be observant of campground activities and enforce campground rules and ( ie quiet hours, camp firepit policy, etc)
- Occasional Guest assistance

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic record-keeping experience, including money handling
- Physical requirements: Ability to move safely over potentially uneven terrain (dirt roads and trails). Able to climb a ladder to check water tank levels
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to learn quickly and follow instructions accurately
- Willing to work a flexible work schedule and be on call
- The ability to work in cold weather.
- Valid drivers license, Minimum age: 21
- Hiring is contingent on successful completion of a background check
- Willingness to live in a rural area, 25 minutes from city amenities.
