About Us

Hi, we’re Heather and Glenn — the owners of Gleatherland, our little slice of desert paradise near Hueco Tanks.

After years of traveling the globe in search of climbing, we settled down in the Hueco Valley. Inspired by the places we had visited and the climbing communities we’d met along the way, Gleatherland Ranch began to take shape.
We started small, with just a couple of campers, and slowly grew to include more campers, yurts, and house rentals. Through it all, our goal has remained the same: to create an affordable, quiet retreat for climbers and anyone looking to experience the magic of West Texas.
What began as a simple love for Hueco Tanks and the desert landscape, has grown into a place where climbers, travelers, and nature lovers can slow down, reconnect, and feel at home. We’ve poured our hearts into creating a space that celebrates the beauty of the desert—from the native landscape and thoughtfully landscaped spaces to wide-open views that come alive at sunset and under the stars.
Whether you’re here to climb, camp, explore, or simply recharge, we’re grateful to share this little piece of Hueco with you. We hope your time here becomes part of your story, too.

The Name

We are Glenn,Heather  & Wyatt Johnson. A friend called us GLEATHER once and it stuck. We tried to change the name of the Gleatherland Ranch to something else, but the locals refer to it as Gleatherland, so we kept it. 

Hueco  Story

Originally from the Midwest and East Coast, we met at the Red River Gorge when we were both just getting started as climbers. Our first trip to Hueco Tanks was in 2000—and our first-ever bouldering trip. We fell in love with Hueco from the very beginning and have been coming back ever since.
During our early years in Hueco, we spent winters working as camp hosts at HRR. Eventually, we bought our own piece of property in Hueco and started what would become Gleatherland Ranch.
For the first 17 years, we lived the seasonal life—spending winters in Hueco and summers in Colorado, working to make our winters in the desert possible. Then, in 2017, everything changed when our son was born. We made the leap to full-time life in Hueco.
What started as a love of climbing and a place we returned to year after year eventually became our home, our campground, and a place we could share with others who love Hueco as much as we do.
